SITUATION:
The Alzheimer's Association - San Diego was nearing the planned
date for their Third Annual Memories in the Making Art
Auction, a major fundraising event supporting the programs
and services of the Association.
CHALLENGE: The Board of Directors wanted
to increase the exposure of the Art Auction and was looking for
a supporter who would bring fresh ideas, marketing expertise,
and a "can do" attitude to the event.
SOLUTION: Diane Watlov-Collins, founder
of Marketingweb was approached to serve as the Chairperson for
the Art Auction. Donald and Darlene Shiley served as the Art
Auction Honorary Chairpersons. In an effort to develop the event,
Ms. Collins focused her attention on greater corporate participation
and the sale of event tables rather than individual ticket sales.
In addition, Ms. Collins employed more cost-effective measures
for spreading the word through newsletter and billing inserts,
save-the-date cards, an event website, and media trades. An inspired
team, which implemented the strategy, saw the event reach new
records in revenue, sponsorship and community awareness.
